Kaohsiung City Dadong Arts Center’s eye-catching design cleverly merges the figure of hot air balloon into the design of its film composed ceiling. The iconic building was in the music video of Jolin Tsai’s big hit: The Great Artist. Under the lighting at night, it radiates a cutting-edge futuristic vibe. The art center’s glass and fair-faced concrete constructed architecture is dazzling like a space station in a sci-fi movie.

These colorful ‘hot air balloons’ symbolize drifting daydream that gives infinite space for hope and imagination. Regardless of sun or rain, winter or summer, these funnel-like designs are intended to create much fun for both local residents and foreign travelers.

Dadong Art Center is more than an interior performing space where one can see how culture encounters people. For instance, performers will sometimes appear in the afternoon and publicly perform on the hillside of the art center during routine hours. The audience can appreciate the performance without buying the tickets for admission, infusing culture naturally into life.

The sunset and sunrise of Dadong vary with different sceneries and glamour. At day time, Dadong Arts Center’s giant funnels with bright white color greets the hot sunny days of Kaohsiung with pure passion. At night, the colorful ‘hot air balloons’ are like dreams slowly rising up to the sky. The scenery is so magical and astounding that one could barely recognize the skyline of Fengshan. It will never be the same.
