Founder, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, CommonWealth Magazine Group.

Ms. Ying co-founded CommonWealth Magazine, Taiwan’s most influential political-economic magazine in 1981.  She has received many awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award for uplifting professional journalism standards in Taiwan.  She was elected in 1995 by Asiaweek as one of the most influential women in Asia, for her contribution in the media business.  She is a writer of eight books and director of award winning documentary films.  She is active in the field of cultural, educational and economic affairs.

For social contribution, she served as a member of the National Unification Commission, the National Educational Reform Commission, the National Economic Reform Commission.  And she was elected as the Chairman of ROC Taiwan National Committee of the International Press Institute (IPI) during 1997-2005.

Prior to the founding of CommonWealth Magazine, she was a veteran journalist, serving as correspondent for the Asian Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, UPI, the Philadelphia Inquirer among other international news organizations.  She also taught journalism at the National Chengchi University for 20 years.

She studied English Literature at National Chengkung University in Taiwan, and received master degree in journalism from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA.  She was chosen as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1997 by U of I,  and received Special Contribution Award by Ministry of Culture in 2012.
