Those who are not familiar with the power supply industry may be unfamiliar with MEAN WELL, but our life is actually dominated with traces of power supplies from the Taiwanese brand.

No matter in the past or at present, an electronic product or device always needs a power supply. While they are the heart of all devices, power supplies were usually hidden behind the scenes in the past and were often overlooked.

This kind of spirit where one does not highlight himself but works heart in silence is in line with the 40-year history of MEAN WELL Enterprise Co., Ltd. Starting from a small factory in an apartment in Banqiao, it has now become the world's largest supplier of standard power supplies, but still maintains a low profile, and has always been reluctant to market its successful business stories. The company has chosen a slow but steady approach to expand and transform, waiting for its next peak to come.

You may be wondering how MEAN WELL became such an internationally renowned brand after decades of devotion, with an annual revenue exceeding USD 1 billion and is still able to keep growing. The answer lies in its name.

Forty years of business "with good intentions" has made company a leader in the global standard power supply industry

The founder of MEAN WELL, Jerry Lin, started his business in 1982. His belief from the beginning has always been "integrity and sincerity." He decided to name his company MEAN WELL after looking into the dictionary page by page. This was also how MEAN WELL derived its Chinese name. The name opened up the prelude to his entrepreneurial journey.

In MEAN WELL's headquarters in Wugu (Taiwan), you will be able to see a motto stone plaque in the open-air garden engraved with Lin's self-encouraging quote, "The setting sun reveals a beaten path on the mountain today. With integrity and sincerity, business is sure to prosper." All of these are the philosophy of life he gradually comprehended from the chaos of his entrepreneurial journey, and along the way, it has become a proposition he firmly believes.

In this process, the team of MEAN WELL has upheld the spirit of doing things "with good intentions" and "integrity and sincerity," and has expanded the business to the three factories in Taiwan and China and established a close network with dealer partners all over the world, all making Lin and his employees believe in "the power of reliable partners" even more.

Looking back, MEAN WELL's breakthrough point at the beginning was the power supply of video game consoles, which brought the first source of momentum for Lin's entrepreneurship. Later, with the explosive growth of Taiwan's information and technology industry, MEAN WELL began to produce power supplies forAPPLE II and IBM compatible PCs (personal computers). In 1986, the company's founder Jerry Lin made a key decision in his life to develop his own brand and provide standard power supplies for industrial use. In the following decades, he continued to expand the product lines and tried to develop various industrial applications. He started from the existing market of power supplies for industrial control and then  gradually expanded to LED lighting, medical care, information and communication technologies, transportation, green energy and more. In recent years, the MEAN WELL has even launched several smart power supplies and 3+N total solutions. With the development of hardware and firmware and strong technical service capabilities, the company focuses on durable, industrial-grade products, niches of international certification, innovative R&D capabilities that keep pace with the times, and reliable global suppliers and dealers.

MEAN WELL has more than 10,000 standard power supply models and can provide integrated total solutions according to customer needs.

With the establishment of factories in Wugu, Guangzhou, Suzhou and India, the hidden power supply empire of "MEAN WELL everywhere" has been gradually taken its shape. From the huge billboard on the NBA stadium, the magnificent statue of Christ the Redeemer overlooking Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, to the exterior wall of the "Water Cube" in the Beijing Olympic Park, Merlions in Singapore, and even the most shining star at the top of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center in New York, you can see the far-reaching influence of MEAN WELL's power supplies.

A boutique watch store in Taipei 101 adopts the DALI-2 DLC-02 controller solution as suggested by the MEAN WELL team. This has solved the lighting needs of the customer in multiple module groups and contexts.

A power supply can save a life, and an enterprise can also exert unexpected influences

During the outbreak of COVID-19, the demand for respirators, nucleic acid detectors, mask machines, and temperature measurement equipment has surged in various regions. While all power products are in short supply, MEAN WELL has repeatedly rushed to produce power supplies for respirators and other equipment. It adjusted the capacity of its Suzhou plant and set up a dedicated line for medical power supplies, meanwhile transferring the original capacity to the Guangzhou and Taiwan plants. The entire team worked and night to join the front line of epidemic prevention, demonstrating the entrepreneurial spirit and passion of MEAN WELL.

For MEAN WELL, it was never about making profits. Putting all efforts into the battle of transferring capacities and rushing orders at all costs are simply a reflection of the corporate spirit "doing things with good intentions" and a belief that "MEAN WELL Can Help!" This is a social participation to fulfill the cause "A power supply can save a life."

During the pandemic, teams at the Guangzhou and Suzhou plants worked overtime to produce medical power supplies.

For Jerry Lin, an enterprise should not only pursue sustainable growth, but also give back to the society when it has spare capacity. Therefore, "good intentions" has always been the foundation for MEAN WELL to work side by side with its long-term partners. It has laid the cornerstone of the positive cycle of "working for the better," "working for the good," and "working for the kind," leading employees and global dealer and supplier partners to contribute to a better environment for generations to come.

MEAN WELL founder Jerry Lin announced to all partners that 2022 is the year the company embarked on its SDG journey. Lin put on a white hat with the SDG GROUP logo to express his determination of sustainable operations.
