Global markets tipped to keep rising in 2025 despite trade war fears
Global stock markets are expected to continue rising in 2025, led by more gains among US shares, despite anxiety about inflation and fears that Donald Trump could spark a new trade war.
Wall Street analysts are forecasting the S&P 500 will rise by roughly 9% in 2025, taking the index of US companies up to about 6,500 points by the end of the year, according to Bloomberg Datar.
Deutsche Bank’s chief global strategist, Binky Chadha, has a bullish 2025 year-end S&P 500 target of 7,000 points, while Goldman Sachs predicts it will be 6,500 points.
UBS has it slightly lower, at 6,400 points, and predicts returns will be backloaded, with mild losses across equities expected in the first half of 2025.

2024 Deadliest Year for Commercial Aviation since 2018

The commercial aviation industry has suffered its deadliest year since 2018, with onboard passenger plane fatalities this year jumping to 318 with the two recent crashes, data compiled by Cirium shows. That’s by far the highest death toll since more than 500 people died in 2018, a year marked by the first of two Boeing Co. 737 Max crashes.
This year started and ended with tragedies in Japan and South Korea during attempted landings, among the most dangerous phases of flight. Fatal aviation accidents remain very rare, and one major incident can suddenly turn a statistically safe year into one of the worst.
Jeju air confirmed that the aircraft had no previous accident history and was fully operational when it left Bangkok.
A bombshell investigation into South Korea's horror plane crash has revealed how the very same plane was involved in another smash just three years ago.
