Taiwan Steps Up Probe Into AI Hardware Smuggling
Taiwanese authorities have raided the offices of US company Super Micro Computer and two other Tech firms as part of an expanded probe into the alleged smuggling of Nvidia AI chips to China. Prosecutors said in May they were investigating the shipment of "high-end" AI servers containing advanced Nvidia chips to China, Macau, and Hong Kong, in violation of US export controls.
Nine people are now under investigation, up from three previously.
They are accused of forging documents to ship roughly 50 servers made by Super Micro Computer to China.
The sweep, spearheaded by prosecutors in Keelung, targeted six individuals who were subsequently summoned on Monday.
The charges focus on document forgery and breach of trust.

China grounds light aircraft after Beijing tower crash
China's major cities are expected to tighten approvals for Airspace access, General Aviation, and large drone operations after a small plane crashed into Beijing's tallest building, CITIC Tower, killing the pilot and injuring 13 people.
The incident is not expected to impede the long-term development of the "Low-Altitude economy."
China has grounded flights of private light Fixed-Wing aircraft after the incident last week, according to operators around the country.
Three operators of small propeller-driven aircraft and one Glider company told the FT that they had been grounded after the incident late on Friday, in which the aircraft hit the Eastern facade of the CITIC tower, Beijing's tallest building, scattering debris to the ground far below and killing the pilot.
The decree, coupled with a wide police cordon around the 528-Metre building and strict censorship of traditional and social media coverage of the crash, threw a cloak of secrecy over one of the most high-profile security breaches in China's capital in years.
However, the fatal flight will raise awkward — and potentially career-ending — questions for those responsible for security in a tightly managed capital where Communist authorities have zero tolerance for public disorder or dissent.

Amazon launches new $1 billion FDE org, following OpenAI and Anthropic
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is investing $1Bn in a new unit for Forward-Deployed engineers (FDEs) to help customers build and roll out artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
FDEs are employees who are embedded directly within different businesses to accelerate a technical transformation. Leading model developers, including OpenAI and Anthropic, announced their own FDE companies earlier this year, in partnership with banks, private equity, and consulting firms.
AWS' new unit will be seeded with "thousands" of FDEs. An initial pod of roughly five or six engineers will be embedded within an AWS customer at a time, and those employees will also work alongside AI agents, which are tools that can independently complete tasks on behalf of their users.
Forward-deployed engineering is a rare bright spot among Tech companies that have been cutting jobs amid the rapid expansion of AI.
