China investigates Nvidia over suspected violation of anti-monopoly law

China has launched an investigation into US chipmaker Nvidia for alleged violations of anti-monopoly laws.

The procedure against the semiconductor champion was initiated by public market regulation services and concerns the violation of a commitment made in 2020, during its acquisition of Mellanox Technologies.

The investigation follows Washington's recent decision to further restrict sales to companies in China's semiconductor industry. US President Joe Biden has tightened restrictions around the sale of advanced technology to China, with the clash over exports expected to continue when Donald Trump re-enters the White House.

Google unveils 'mind-boggling' quantum computing chip

Google has announced that it has overcome a key challenge in quantum computing with a new generation of chip, solving a computing problem in five minutes that would take a classical computer more time than the history of the universe. Like other Tech giants such as Microsoft and International Business Machines (IBM), Alphabet's Google is chasing quantum computing because it promises computing speeds far faster than today's fastest systems.

The chip, dubbed willow, incorporates key "breakthroughs" and "paves the way to a useful, large-scale quantum computer." However, experts say willow is, for now, a largely experimental device, meaning a quantum computer powerful enough to solve a wide range of real-world problems is still years and billions of dollars away.

OpenAI launches AI video generator Sora to the public

OpenAI has launched its artificial intelligence (AI) video generator, Sora, to the public, expanding its foray into multimodal AI technologies.

Sora is known as a text-to-video generator, a tool that can create AI video clips based on a user's written prompts.

The tool can generate up to 20-second videos from written instructions and can also complete a scene and extend existing videos by filling in missing frames.
