Taiwan Warns of ‘Destructive’ Winds as Typhoon Nears

Taiwan's weather forecaster warned of "destructive" winds as the biggest typhoon in years swept towards the island after pounding the Pacific Territories. Typhoon Bavi is whipping up waves several meters high and is expected to batter the Island's North on Friday and Saturday before smashing into China, already hit by deadly storms this week. "Relatively destructive" winds are likely to "cause damage" in Taiwan, including in the port city of Keelung and the Coastal County of Yilan, central weather Administration (Cwa) forecaster Jason Cheng told AFP.

After hitting Guam and the northern Marianas on Monday as a super typhoon, Bavi was downgraded to a typhoon as it moved across the Pacific Ocean.

Apple supplier Luxshare slips in Hong Kong's biggest listing of 2026

Luxshare precision industry, an Apple supplier, has raised $3.1Bn in Hong Kong's biggest listing this year so far.

The Shenzhen-based company, which assembles products such as iPhones and Airpods, sold 383.5 million shares at Hkd 63.28 each, the top end of the offering range.

The offer price represented a 12% discount to the Wednesday close of its Shenzhen-Listed shares. Cornerstone investors, which get a guaranteed allocation in exchange for holding shares for at least six months, have agreed to buy $1.5Bn worth of Luxshare stock.

Luxshare has evolved into a supplier of parts for a broader set of consumer and automotive electronics and communications products.

Apple accounts for approximately 70% of Luxshare's revenue, according to Pitchbook.

The jumbo deal comes amid a frenzy of listings by China's ai and advanced manufacturing companies, with new volumes at their highest since 2021.

Luxshare's revenue hit 332.34 billion yuan in 2025, up from 268.79 billion yuan in 2024, as per its prospectus, with consumer electronics accounting for 79.5%, automotive electronics 11.8%, and communications and data centers at 7.4%.

VW faces protests in Germany over proposed job cuts and factory closures

Germany's largest automaker, Volkswagen, is under intense pressure to cut costs and improve efficiency, which has revived tensions between management and labor leaders. Profits have eroded in VW's biggest market, China, and top executives led by CEO Oliver Blume have called for measures to boost competitiveness.

Volkswagen's proposal to slash up to 100,000 jobs and close factories faces a major test on Thursday as formal proposals are put to the supervisory board at Europe's biggest carmaker, with protests planned at all plants in Germany.

The proposals rank among the most drastic changes in Volkswagen's postwar history.

They set Blume on a collision course with labor unions and politicians who hold unique sway on defending jobs.
