Anthropic sued for allegedly using 274 Elvis Presley songs to train AI models
Authentic brands group, the licensing organization that owns the rights to Elvis Presley's music and likeness, is suing artificial intelligence (ai) company Anthropic for allegedly using Presley's songs to train its models without permission.
The lawsuit, filed on Friday, accuses Anthropic of infringing on the rights of 274 songs by Presley.
While AI firms have already faced copyright infringement claims from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and music labels such as Sony, Universal, and Warner Records, this case represents one of the first major legal challenges brought directly by an artist's estate against an AI developer.
The result could set a broader precedent for how AI companies are allowed to use existing music catalogues.
The plaintiffs are seeking $150,000 per infringing copyrighted material.
The lawsuit claims that Anthropic's AI model, Claude, has created infringing output of copyrighted material of virtually every song from every catalog available on the Internet.
The plaintiffs allege that the infringement has occurred throughout "the entire development" of Anthropic's flagship Claude models and continues today as users generate outputs that reproduce copyrighted lyrics or create unauthorized adaptations of the songs.

US military gives Elon Musk's SpaceX access to sensitive tracking data
Elon Musk's SpaceX has been granted access to restricted space tracking data by the US military, raising questions about whether the Trump administration is attempting to hand over traffic control in Earth's orbit to a controversial donor.
The access also raises new national security questions, industry observers say.
The move comes after Musk's DOGE in 2025 fired many of the federal government's nascent space traffic control programs staff, and the administration has twice attempted to financially gut the Department, called the traffic coordination system for space (Traccs).
The moves were widely viewed in the industry as an attempt by Musk to privatize space traffic control.
The Defense Department has now granted SpaceX access to its most precise data on potential collisions among satellites and other space objects, which will give Musk's companies an advantage over competition that offers a similar service.
The commercial US space market is expected to grow to a value of nearly $2 trillion over the next decade, and the unprecedented access to military data appears to be another step toward Musk asserting monopoly control over commercial space activity more broadly, said Cole Donovan, a former Traccs employee now with the stand up for science non-profit.
The Space Force is engaging with several companies to exchange commercial data sources for access to sections of the controlled, unclassified information, high-accuracy catalogue, where it provides benefit to the us government.

Microsoft warns Windows users of possible update issues in 2027
Microsoft has warned users who have disabled Windows Update or neglected system maintenance that they may be blocked from downloading future patches and security updates through official channels starting in 2027. The coming disruption is caused by the expiration of Digital certificates used to authenticate Windows Update servers, which are set to lapse on May 17 and June 19, 2027. Devices that fail to install updated certificates before these cut-off dates will lose the ability to establish secure connections with Microsoft's update infrastructure.
Digital certificates function as virtual identity cards, allowing Windows to verify that it is connecting to genuine Microsoft Servers rather than fraudulent entities.
