Meta platforms has partnered with Apple to release a new open-weight AI model and run it locally on Apple's high-end Mac computers.

The partnership will give developers another American-made AI option to power research projects, App development, video production, and more.

Meta platforms have been battling with Apple since the early days of the iPhone, and now AI has brought the two fierce rivals together.

Ukraine intercepts nearly 88% of Russian jet-powered drones in major daytime attack

Russia launched over 850 Shahed drones at Ukraine, with 90 of these being jet-powered.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted the drones, with 87.78% of the jet-powered drones being neutralized.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the attack was Russia's response to signals it is receiving from the United States, and that residential buildings, stores, energy facilities, and other critical infrastructure are under constant attack. Emergency services are working at the scene to assist the victims.

The attack on a store in the Odesa region with a Jet-Powered Shahed drone left people injured.

The store was partially destroyed, and cars were damaged.

Three people were injured.

The drone attack was Russia's Demonstrative response to signals it is receiving from the United States.

The President called these signals dangerous, as they concern the possible further lifting of sanctions. Satellite images have appeared online showing the damage to the bombers at the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Russia's Voronezh region.

The Su-34M can carry several guided and high-explosive bombs simultaneously, as well as various types of missiles, and is one of the key assets of the Russian Air Force used to launch guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian defense positions and frontline settlements.

Harvard endowment returns surge on back of AI and SpaceX investments

Harvard University's endowment has recorded its second-highest annual return on record, thanks to a rally in US stocks and venture capital investments in high-flying private technology companies such as Spacex.

The endowment returned 21.7% in the 12 months to 30 June, helping boost its total assets by almost a fifth to $68Bn.

NP Narvekar, CEO of Harvard management company, attributed the "exceptional" performance primarily to venture capital, public equities and hedge funds. Private equity, including venture capital, now accounts for 46% of the endowment's portfolio, up from 20% a decade ago.

HMC's performance reflects a broader rebound among leading US University endowments after several years of disappointing returns relative to public equity markets. Private equity holdings, particularly venture capital, weighed on overall returns in recent years. That trend reversed this year as soaring valuations of ai Start-Ups boosted the value of its investments in venture capital funds. "Private investments were a meaningful contributor to performance in FY26," said Narvekar.
