Anthropic files for listing on US stock market with valuation of more than $1.5tn
San Francisco-based artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic has filed for a listing on the US stock market under the symbol ANT.
Analysts and investors have previously valued the company at more than $1.5Tn, meaning its listing will be one of the largest in market history.
Anthropic offers the Chatbot Claude as its flagship product, which has text generation features as well as advanced coding and Cybersecurity capabilities.
The disclosure highlights the safety challenges facing developers of increasingly powerful AI models, some of whose creators have warned the technology could eventually escape human control.
Anthropic paused training of its Next-Generation flagship AI model for more than a month over security concerns, while four of its AI agents accessed live external computer systems during testing, its initial public offering filing showed on Monday.
Anthropic's audited filings will offer the first public glimpse of its financial health, which has been the object of intense speculation in recent months as questions of a potential AI bubble swirl.
A successful flotation by a pure-play AI giant such as Anthropic could reshape how markets value parts of the booming industry, including chipmakers and related infrastructure companies, analysts have said.

Chinese carmakers outsell Japanese rivals in Europe for the first time
Chinese automakers have outsold Japanese rivals in Europe for the first time over a full quarter, with registrations of Chinese-branded cars roughly doubling from a year earlier in the three months through September to make up 12.7% of total sales across the region, led by hybrids, according to market researcher Dataforce. That’s put them ahead of Japanese manufacturers including Toyota Motor Corp. at 11.9%.
The advance accelerated at the end of the quarter.
Chinese brands’ European share jumped in September to a record 14.5%, according to Dataforce, almost three percentage points higher than in August.
While European manufacturers like Volkswagen AG and Renault SA still dominate the region, the speed of China’s surge has been a surprise. Five years ago, Chinese brands accounted for barely 1% of European sales.
Japan’s automakers, by contrast, have spent decades building their position in Europe.
Toyota has sold cars in the region since 1963 and now operates factories across the continent, while Nissan Motor Co. has produced vehicles at its Sunderland plant in the UK since 1986.
China’s offering is especially successful in the UK, where Chery’s Jaecoo 7 SUV was the country’s best-selling model in March and September.
The shift is a double Whammy for Europe’s struggling manufacturers.

France: Macron vows 'strong measures' to combat protests
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a series of "strong measures" to calm the country's recent protests.
Speaking in Marseille, Macron warned that fresh demonstrations planned for this coming Saturday were "risky" and said protest routes would remain outside city centres to protect public order.
French interior Minister Laurent Nunez said he was expecting further disturbances on October 31.
The protests, which have rattled Macron's government for weeks, show little sign of easing after violence nine days ago engulfed dozens of cities, leading to fears the state had lost control of the streets.
In response, the Interior Ministry deployed 70,000 police for Saturday's demonstrations, which unions called to denounce the high cost of living and public services.
The movement has grown far beyond initial student discontent, drawing in trade unions and "yellow vest" activists, known for their high-visibility jackets and mass demonstrations against economic pressures including high fuel costs.
The French government sought to draw a line Monday under weeks of protests marred by violence, with Macron heading to Marseille.
France has been rocked by widespread anger over the rising cost of living, with nationwide demonstrations on October 17 degenerating into some of the country's worst rioting in years.
