Bill Gates calls for human-reserved jobs in face of AI takeover

Bill Gates, the Co-Founder of Microsoft, has written a 6,000-Word essay titled "The turbulent AI era is here”.

“The choices we make now are critical," in which he warns that the world needs to prepare now for a period of rapid change driven by AI. Gates has called for human-reserved jobs in certain sectors to prevent AI from replacing them, and expressed concern that governments are not prepared for the impact the technology will have.

He likened the need to spare roles from Digital encroachment to how nature reserves operate to protect the environment. Gates says the transition to the AI era is one of the most turbulent periods in human history.

While Gates acknowledges the huge potential AI has to improve human life, from helping doctors and teachers to improving Agriculture and government services, he also warns that society is not prepared for the disruption the technology could bring.

The essay is a shift from past statements from Gates, who works with Microsoft and other AI companies through the Gates Foundation. In his essay, Gates said that AI could displace workers across the economy, squeeze Entry-Level hiring, and force policymakers to rethink employment, education, and the social safety net.

OpenAI’s Jalapeño AI chip brings new 'threat' to Nvidia margins as custom silicon gains ground

OpenAI announced that its new Jalapeno chips performed better than Nvidia's current lineup during testing, underscoring the company's progress developing AI processors in-house.

The Jalapeno processor led in two categories: the amount of AI work it could handle per unit of power and its speed at returning responses.

The semiconductor was measured against Nvidia's GB300, which was the leading option on the public Benchmarking system used in the test.

The maker of ChatGPT plans to start using the new chips to support its artificial intelligence models later this year, part of a broader push to build its own AI infrastructure.

It joins a stampede of companies working to develop homegrown AI chips — a field currently dominated by Nvidia.

Iran, Oman Agree to Share Strait of Hormuz Revenue, IRGC Says

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which one-fifth of global oil and natural gas supplies from Gulf producers are shipped in peacetime, has been effectively closed to shipping, sending global energy markets into crisis.

The Us-Israel war on Iran, which began with strikes on Tehran on February 28, has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, sending global energy markets into crisis.

The narrow waterway through which one-fifth of global oil and natural gas supplies from Gulf producers are shipped in peacetime has become a major bone of contention between Washington and Tehran, and disagreements over the critical channel continue to hinder any hopes of a lasting peace plan.
