Data Center Spending to Reach $31.6 Trillion by 2050 on AI Boom
Global investment in data centers is expected to reach $31.6Tn through 2050 to meet the world's growing appetite for artificial intelligence (AI), according to PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The investment boom is expected to surpass the railway, electricity grid, and Internet build-outs of earlier eras, with annual investment expected to rise from about $800Bn in 2026 to $1.1Tn in 2030 and $1.8Tn by 2050.
However, power and chip constraints threaten growth.
Hyperscalers often want facilities delivered within six months, while grid connection delays can stretch as long as 24 months in some emerging markets and more than eight years in major developed markets.
The bulk of the spending will go into what fills the data centres — hardware from companies such as global AI chip leader Nvidia.

John Ternus takes over as Apple enters era of AI, foldable phones
John Ternus has officially taken over as the CEO of Apple, succeeding Tim Cook, who ended a 15-year tenure leading the Tech giant.
Ternus had been serving as the senior vice president for hardware engineering at the Cupertino, California-based company since 2021. One of his biggest challenges will be balancing the company's dependence on China while parrying acute political pressure from the White House.
Ternus joined Apple's design team in 2001 and worked his way up to senior vice president of hardware engineering, reporting to Cook.
He leads the engineering teams behind Apple's entire product lineup, including the iPhones that generate most of the company's revenue.

Xi proposed the establishment of an international center for AI applications and efforts to strengthen cooperation among Sco members in fields ranging from trade and investment to energy resources. his proposal chimes with his promise in July to provide developing countries with AI training.
