Lin shared an example from the United States, where some substations have received complaints from local communities due to noise. "Transformers naturally produce low-frequency noise during operation," he explained. "When substations are located close to residential, commercial, or office areas, that noise can become a source of concern for nearby residents and businesses."
Rather than viewing this challenge as merely a problem to be solved, Lin saw it as an opportunity for innovation. Through a government-funded research project, his team invested in the development of smart regulating transformer technology, making improvements across materials, structural design, and manufacturing processes. The result was a product capable of significantly reducing low-frequency noise, effectively addressing customer concerns while helping Fortune Electric establish a differentiated competitive advantage in international markets.
"The heavy electrical equipment industry is no longer the rigid, slow-moving manufacturing sector that many people imagine," Lin notes.
